Environmental Policy
Our commitment to responsible non-hazardous waste clearance, compliant disposal routes and continuous environmental improvement.
Last updated: 22 October 2026
1. Purpose of this Policy
This policy sets out Sutton Waste's commitment to responsible environmental conduct in the collection, handling and disposal of non-hazardous waste. It applies to all operational activities, disposal routes, supplier relationships and internal working practices. This document is intended to be a formal statement of environmental responsibility suitable for commercial clients, managed property organisations, local authorities and procurement review.
2. Responsible Waste Handling
All waste collected by Sutton Waste is handled in accordance with applicable UK waste regulations. Sutton Waste operates as an approved waste carrier and ensures that all collected non-hazardous waste is transported and transferred to appropriately licensed facilities. Illegal disposal, fly-tipping or the use of unlicensed disposal routes is strictly prohibited.
3. Licensed Disposal and Recycling Routes
Waste is processed through licensed waste management facilities and registered disposal partners. Where required by regulation — for example, WEEE compliance for electrical items, or refrigerant recovery for applicable appliances — specialist disposal routes are used. Sutton Waste does not make claims about specific recycling percentages without verified data. All disposal is compliant and documented.
4. Reducing Avoidable Landfill
Sutton Waste aims to reduce avoidable landfill by directing suitable materials to recycling, reuse or upcycling routes wherever practical and where facilities permit. Not every material or waste type can be diverted from landfill, but our aim is to improve the proportion of suitable waste diverted year by year.
5. Reuse and Recycling Where Practical
Where items collected still have value or useful life, Sutton Waste aims to support reuse, resale or upcycling routes. Suitable recyclable materials — including appropriate metal, wood, cardboard and green waste — are separated and directed to recycling facilities where operationally practical. We do not claim 100% recycling or landfill-free disposal without clear supporting evidence.
6. Operational Efficiency and Route Planning
Sutton Waste uses route planning and scheduling to reduce unnecessary mileage, idling and vehicle emissions. Operational efficiency is reviewed as part of continuous improvement. We aim to reduce the environmental impact of vehicle movements while maintaining reliable and responsive collections for customers.
7. Staff Responsibility
All Sutton Waste staff and operational teams are responsible for following correct disposal, handling and operational procedures. Environmental responsibility is a core part of how the service operates, not an optional add-on. Any breach of environmental or waste handling standards is treated seriously and addressed accordingly.
8. Supplier and Disposal Partner Standards
Sutton Waste works with licensed and appropriately registered disposal and recycling partners. We review the compliance and environmental standards of our disposal partners as part of our supplier management process. We will not use disposal partners who cannot demonstrate compliance with applicable waste regulations.
9. Continuous Improvement
10. Related Sustainability Commitments
This policy sits alongside our broader sustainability commitments, which address recycling, reuse, circular responsibility, lower-carbon fleet ambitions and honest environmental communication. Our sustainability approach is customer-facing and explains how we are working to reduce environmental impact across the business.
